Summer Time: Chlorine & Sea Salt Hair Issues

Summer time is great!  Everybody is traveling and doing outdoor activities.  Swimming, long days in the sun, and tons of sun screen.  Oh and let’s not forget crispy hair.  So a lot of people tend to go for a lighter hair color in the summer, but ruin it after a few days at the beach or in a chlorine filled swimming pool.  Of course if you have children you’re fighting tangled rough hair.  So here are some remedies you can do on the go or at home to help your hair. Remedy #1: Strip your hair. I strongly advise herbal tea rinses mixed with a bit of vinegar to strip your hair of chlorine.  Brew a cup of herbal tea. Suggested Herbs: Calendula and Chamomile for Light Hair Rosemary and Nutmeg for Medium Hair Rosehip or Rose and Hibiscus for Shades of Red Sage and Nettle for Dark Hair Allow it to cool.  If you have dark hair, add 1/4 of a cup of Apple Cider Vinegar (ACV).  If you have light hair, add 1/4 of a cup of White Vinegar (ACV).  If your current hair color falls in the middle, I would advise ACV.  Once the vinegar of your […]

Hello Heartburn

As we all know heartburn is a royal pain.  In fact, in some cases it can be right up there with a case of bad gas.  You know nothing is more embarrassing than a really bad stomach that’s really just a bad case of gas, but that’s another story.  So I’ve been on the receiving end of heartburn.  It’s wasn’t pleasant.  It was like taking one of those really huge pills that gets stuck in your esophagus and no amount of water will get rid of it. Personally, I don’t like taking medication for something that is usually diet related.  I usually eat really well, but everybody has there nice little spurts of “I’m gong to eat donuts for the next month”.  So what had happened was, I was in college and busy.  I wanted something quick, easy, and easily portable.  My frozen meal of choice was ravioli.  There are many different variations of ravioli.  However, many sold on the market contain red sauce.  Mistake #1.  I was used to homemade red sauce with fresh tomatoes, and in all honesty I didn’t realize how acidic red sauce can be.  It had been a part of my diet regularly growing up. Scrub Away!

Everybody needs a little exfoliation, and the best time to do it is during the winter.  Why?  Because 9/10 of the time we are completely covered, unless you’re lucky enough to live in a warm area year-round.  So after removing any dead skin, we can moisturize and protect our skin and keep it soft and supple.  I think winter is the best for exfoliation because people tend to use thicker lotions and creams to combat dry skin caused by winter weather.  Well there’s a problem with that.  These heavier lotions and creams can’t penetrate our skin as well as they should.  So sometimes patches of hard dry skin appear in areas we take care of really well.  By using exfoliation, we open our pores and remove dry skin that has built up so our creams and lotions can actually do their jobs.  With that said, let’s talk about scrubs.  Bath scrubs not Scrubs.
