Clear Skin From the Inside Out

You can have the clearest skin in the world…until you eat the wrong food or start slacking in your facial cleansing routine.  It happens to everyone.  If I get really stressed out, I get a surprise on my face.  Eat too many oranges, I get a surprise on my forehead.  Over the last few weeks, I’ve been really busy, and at times I have been too tired to wash my face before bed.  I don’t wear makeup on a regular basis, but I always moisturize my face.  I get tired of having to do a deep cleanse every other night before bed.  I workout alot and I sweat alot, but I don’t wear makeup.  Not wearing makeup helps, but you can’t forget the grime your face collects throughout the day.  Your pores need that layer of grime removed so you don’t wind up with Pimple Delight.  So I have been trying a few things to kind of keep my skin balanced. ACV Tea Rinse vs Cold Water Rinse

The featured image is the water rinse results 3 days later vs the ACV tea rinse results also 3 days later. This is the 3 month battle for shiny hair I’ve been immersed in.  I stumbled upon an alternative for the cold water rinse about a month ago.  I had tons of herbal tea rinses and plenty of Apple Cider Vinegar (ACV).  On top of that, walking out the house with wet hair is no big deal right now.  So I decided to try something new.  I have super curly thick hair, so I deep condition year round at least twice a week.  I also live in a humid area so frizz all year long is an issue.  I know most people at this point probably know about the popular Cold Water Rinse for shiny hair.  If you haven’t, it’s essentially making your final rinse with cold water before styling your hair.  The cold water apparently shocks the hair cuticle into closing or laying down so that light reflects better off your hair.  It’s a method that is supposed to be good for all kinds of hair textures (curly, straight, etc).  So I tried the cold water rinse for 2 months […]

Summer Time: Chlorine & Sea Salt Hair Issues

Summer time is great!  Everybody is traveling and doing outdoor activities.  Swimming, long days in the sun, and tons of sun screen.  Oh and let’s not forget crispy hair.  So a lot of people tend to go for a lighter hair color in the summer, but ruin it after a few days at the beach or in a chlorine filled swimming pool.  Of course if you have children you’re fighting tangled rough hair.  So here are some remedies you can do on the go or at home to help your hair. Remedy #1: Strip your hair. I strongly advise herbal tea rinses mixed with a bit of vinegar to strip your hair of chlorine.  Brew a cup of herbal tea. Suggested Herbs: Calendula and Chamomile for Light Hair Rosemary and Nutmeg for Medium Hair Rosehip or Rose and Hibiscus for Shades of Red Sage and Nettle for Dark Hair Allow it to cool.  If you have dark hair, add 1/4 of a cup of Apple Cider Vinegar (ACV).  If you have light hair, add 1/4 of a cup of White Vinegar (ACV).  If your current hair color falls in the middle, I would advise ACV.  Once the vinegar of your […]

Hello Heartburn

As we all know heartburn is a royal pain.  In fact, in some cases it can be right up there with a case of bad gas.  You know nothing is more embarrassing than a really bad stomach that’s really just a bad case of gas, but that’s another story.  So I’ve been on the receiving end of heartburn.  It’s wasn’t pleasant.  It was like taking one of those really huge pills that gets stuck in your esophagus and no amount of water will get rid of it. Personally, I don’t like taking medication for something that is usually diet related.  I usually eat really well, but everybody has there nice little spurts of “I’m gong to eat donuts for the next month”.  So what had happened was, I was in college and busy.  I wanted something quick, easy, and easily portable.  My frozen meal of choice was ravioli.  There are many different variations of ravioli.  However, many sold on the market contain red sauce.  Mistake #1.  I was used to homemade red sauce with fresh tomatoes, and in all honesty I didn’t realize how acidic red sauce can be.  It had been a part of my diet regularly growing up. Spot Treatments for Acne

I know everyone or most people have had a “OMG I have somewhere to be and everyone is going to see this giant zit!”.   Been there done that, and no, I don’t want to repeat it.  Sometimes I find sulfur mask or purifying mask in general, either do two things to my face: Dry it out or only work once.  When my skin has been dried out by a facial mask, my moisturizer has to work over time aka I have to use it 3 times a day.  My moisturizer is too expensive for that.  So I have found  3 ways to treat areas that are prone to acne or pimples in general.  So the 3 ways I treat my skin are simple: Drink Apple Cider Vinegar (ACV) Create a 50/50 mix of ACV and water to spot treat Crushed aspirin mixed with a little water Spot facial mask of Honey, ACV, Baking Soda, and Peppermint Oil For #1, I mix 3ish tbsps of raw local honey, I have major sinus issues, with 3ish tbsps of ACV.  Once it’s mixed together I add water and drink it.  I like sour stuff.  So if you don’t like sour stuff skip […]

So You Went A Little Overboard: Repairing Damage

Hair damage is enough to give anybody heart palpitations.  Sometimes we will spend days trying to fix hair damage.  Whether the damage is caused by chemicals, heat, or neglect, before starting from scratch try some of these remedies to get your hair back. Baking Soda and Conditioner I usually do a 75% baking soda 25% conditioner mix and I mix them until I have a creamy consistency.  As you all know, if your hair isn’t straight buying products can be a true hassle.  Particularly buying styling products.  Since switching to all natural organics products, I have a lot of let over conditioners.  So take my old conditioners that no longer do anything for my hair and mix them with baking soda.  I do this treatment once a month to remove any impurities and build up my hair may have accumulated.   I recommend you only leave this on for at most an hour the first time because it can have a slight tingling/burning sensation for the first 5 minutes.  There are times when we think we’ve done irreversible damage to our hair, but really it’s just a bad case of build up.  Build up will cause your hair to act all […]

Avocado Facial Mask for Supple Skin

Avocado is packed with nutrients and lots of good fat.  I know people say fat and run the opposite direction, but remember everything in moderation isn’t bad necessarily.  Anyways, avocado is not only good for reestablishing elasticity in your hair, but also in your skin.  If you work out on the regular like I do, these mask(s) I’m going to list can be a life saver for your skin.  Even if you don’t work out these mask can help get rid of nasty dry spots that just won’t go away no matter how much moisturizer you slather on them.  Plus it’s winter for some of us right now and we need all the moisture we can get. Mask #1: 1/2 of soft avocado 2 tbs of hot water 1 ts of honey Peal and mash the avocado with a fork or in a mixer or bullet. Dissolve the honey into the water and add it to the mashed avocado. Put it on your face, using your fingers or a paint brush or even a makeup brush. Avoid the area of your eyes and mouth. Keep 10 minutes and wash away.
